Information systems and communication technology
For this assessment, you will be evaluating information systems and communication technologies for the scenario below. Spicy Loaf Bakery is a family owned traditional bakery where everything is made by hand. The business uses basic accounting software to keep track of the sales and expenses, and an excel spreadsheet, saved locally to their hard drive, to keep track of their inventory. The only device that has access to the software is an HP Compaq 6730b laptop running Windows 7. It was purchased in 2010, has 2GB of RAM, a hard drive capacity of 320GB, and displays images at 1380 x 800 pixels. The laptop is not connected to the internet, has no digital security, and often runs out of space, leading to the owners deleting older files. When the
owners need to talk to a supplier, they try to visit in person.
Up until 2020, the owners relied on word of mouth and foot traffic as the main source of sales. Having a presence online was daunting to the owners. With the emergence of COVID-19 in early 2020, the business is struggling as they can no longer rely on word-of-mouth advertising and foot traffic. The owners have come to you for help. After an initial discussion, you have identified that the owners would like:
• a new way of tracking inventory
• to bring the business online
• a better way of communicating with suppliers.
