Assessment Details

You are to write an essay in which you critically analyse the legal and professional standards that regulate community health, mental health, and addiction services in Aotearoa New Zealand, with particular attention to cultural responsiveness and equity for marginalised people. Read all tasks before you start your essay.

Structure of the essay (as a guide only)

1. Introduction including a hook, background information and proposition statement (+- 150 words) [15 marks]

• Critical analysis [Task 2] (+/- 1,200 words) [50 marks]
• Conclusion (+/- 250 words) [29 marks]

2. A minimum of 5 relevant references (APA 7^th edition) [6 marks]

Assessment Tasks

Task 1: Introduction (+/- 150 words)

• Define legal and professional standards as you have analysed in the critical analysis.
• Outline the scope and purpose of your assignment.
• Ensure your introduction includes a hook, background information, and proposition statement.

Task 2: Critical Analysis (+/- 1,200 words)

You need to critically analyse at least one legal and one professional standard relevant to each health service, focusing on how they regulate practice in the Aotearoa New Zealand health sector a) Community health

1. Mental health and
2. Addiction services.

Use at least three peer reviewed sources to evidence your answers.

Task 3: Conclusion (+/- 250 words)

From your findings in the critical analysis, provide an informed conclusion of how the legal and professional standards are clearly linked to legal and professional conduct in addiction services. Explain how you would apply these standards through professional conduct.

Task 4: Academic Writing and APA referencing (min. of 5 sources)

Use at least 5 relevant sources (government or sector reports and peer-reviewed academic articles) and include in-text citations and referencing, using APA 7^th edition style, to acknowledge all the sources of information you have used. Sources should be current (within the last 10 years), with emphasis on recent developments and contemporary evidence. Blog posts and non-academic websites are not acceptable as primary sources.
