- Identify and examine the importance of mātauranga Māori for oranga and hauora within the mental health setting.
- Identify and examine the factors that impact on mental health and recovery across the lifespan in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Assessment Tasks
Essay Title: Whaiora – in pursuit of wellness in the context of Mental Health.
Using credible textbooks and academic studies, key national strategies (e.g., He Ara Oranga, Te Pae Waenga), and Nursing Council guidelines, complete an essay that discusses the journey Tāngata whaiora may encounter in mental health recovery in New Zealand.
Task 1: Choose one of the following conditions and describe the following: Aetiology, diagnostic criteria, symptoms and common treatments for your chosen condition.

Task 4: Examine a current NZ mental health strategy related to your chosen condition and discuss the factors that impact on its implementation.
Task 5: Select two Nursing Council Pou. Discuss how the Pou (& descriptors) influence nursing practice in supporting tangata whaiora and recovery from your chosen condition. Discuss the barriers to implementation.
