Introduction

In this assessment, you will use information gathered through your own research, to analyse the impacts of a range of internal environmental influences on business operations within a New Zealand business.

You may choose the business from the following options:

2Degrees, OneNZ or Skinny (Telecommunications companies)
Briscoes or Bunnings (Retail Industry)
Pak’nSave or New World (Grocery Industry)
Jetstar or CPG Hotels (Tourism Industry)
Gallagher Group or Sealord Group (Agriculture and fishing industries)

The business that you use for this assessment will be used again in Assessment 2.

Note: It is important that you conduct research on your chosen company and this information is referenced in your assessment where necessary.

BSNS5002 Assessment 1 Task

Task 1 Internal Strengths/Weakness Analysis

Conduct a strengths/weaknesses analysis by identifying four different strengths and weaknesses about any of the internal factors in your chosen business. Write a paragraph about each of them, explaining how it is a strength or a weakness.

Note: there is no set combination of strengths and weaknesses, however, you should do a total of four that includes at least one weakness.

Task 2 Benchmark Analysis

Conduct a benchmark analysis between your chosen business and at least one of its competitors to identify areas of ‘best practice’ that could assist between your chosen business in tackling some of the weaknesses raised above or to exploit a strength.

Benchmark measures could be based on product range, service levels, customer loyalty, brand strength, technology used, financial status, market share, or sustainability initiatives.

Organisational culture refers to the shared values, beliefs, and behaviours that shape how employees interact and work within a company. It influences decision-making, communication styles, and overall workplace atmosphere, impacting employee motivation and business success. A strong organisational culture fosters collaboration, innovation, and a sense of belonging among team members.
