Assignment Purpose
The purpose of the assignment is to apply knowledge through your independent reading and research, to a real-life example of a selection process. The assignment output includes a description of a selection system for a specific role, analysis of that system and recommendations for improvement, and suggestions for methods to measure performance in the specific role.
Your assignment can be based on:
- Either your own experience of a selection process for a particular job role/volunteer role/internship; or
- an interview with someone who has been through a selection process for a particular job role/volunteer role/internship.
Please use APA format and British English in writing.
Part A: Background information
Your task for Part A is to provide background information for the role that your assignment will be based on. You will use this information as the basis for Parts B and C of your assignment. Background information for Part A should include:
- A brief overview of the role in question, including key tasks and responsibilities for that position (up to 200 words).
- A description of each of the steps involved in the selection process that you/they went through to secure the position. (You can use bullet points, a flow chart, or text when answering this part of the question. This section can be up to 300 words, but may be less depending on the format used)
Part A should be based on either your own experience or the responses from your interviewee. No references are required.
Part B: Analysis and recommendations
Your task for Part B is to evaluate the selection process you described in Part A and make recommendations for improvements.
Part B should include:
- A critical, research informed discussion of the reliability and validity of the methods used. Note: you should consider multiple forms of validity and include statistics if and where appropriate.
- Recommendations for improvements to the selection process, and justification for your recommendations. Note: if you do not believe any improvements are necessary, you should justify this position.
Part B should be up to 1000 words. References to relevant literature are expected.

Part C: Performance measurement
Predictive validity can be determined by correlating selection test scores of a candidate with their future job performance.
Your task for Part C is to:
- Suggest two aspects of performance that could be measured and explain why they are meaningful measures of performance for the role that you have described.
- Explain how each of these aspects of performance could be measured, and briefly discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your suggested measurement method.
Part C should be up to 500 words. References to relevant literature are expected.
