Title : Traceability study for a steel construction workshop as basis to introduce Digital Twins
As steel construction company (similar to the NZ companies D&H Steel http://www.dhsteel.co.nz/ Links to an external site. or Grayson Engineering https://www.grayson-eng.co.nz/ Links to an external site.) would like to introduce Digital Twins in their shopfloor. The production process can be divided into these steps:
- Inwards goods receive raw material: beams and metal plates
- Cutting of raw material to length
- Drilling holes into the to length cut raw material
- Welding of smaller components
- Welding of big components which includes the assembly/integration of the small components 6. Coating of final steel component
- Loading of products onto a truck trailer.
The final Digital Twin should deliver the following features:
- real-time monitoring, status and position of all products
- easily accessible process data for each product
- online observer for the welding quality
An initial analysis has shown that product tracing within the production plant should be digitalised. Furthermore, a suitable database for the process data of the Digital Twins is missing.
In this context, write an academic report which addresses to following topics
- Determine the five most promising tracing technologies for this specific industrial production process and discuss pros and cons.
- Develop a database layout for the Digital Twins which considers the tracing as well as the parent / child relationship of the assembly / manufacturing process.
The report needs to be kept under 5000 words (excluding the references). The format is strictly that for “IEEE Transactions on Automation Science
and Engineering”. The report must be made up of the following sections: Title Page, Introduction, Tracing Technologies, Database Layout, Discussion and Conclusions, and References.
