Instructions

Complete and submit your assessment according to the Open Polytechnic’s Assessments webpage. This includes information on academic integrity, formatting, word limits and referencing.

Submission

• Submit your assessment in two parts:
  1. The ePortfolio document (one file) containing all written tasks and embedded screenshots/visuals of your outputs.
  2. Original digital file(s) containing your produced digital outputs from Task 3 (for example, the original spreadsheet, the AI-generated text file, and so on). Submit these as separate files or within a single ZIP file.

• Emailed assessments will not be accepted.
• You will receive an automated notice advising you of your successful submission.

By submitting your assessment, you confirm that it is your own original work.

Assessment 2: ePortfolio – Technology Evaluation and Application (45%)

Focus: Evaluate current and emerging business technologies to support operational performance.

Instructions: For this assessment, you will analyse and evaluate relevant technologies to improve a business’s operational performance. You can choose ONE of two contexts for your analysis:

1. The Nourish & Thrive scenario: Use the provided case study as the basis for your analysis.
2. Workplace-based application: Apply the assessment requirements to your current workplace.

Regardless of your chosen context, the following tasks must be completed. Your submission will be evaluated against the same rubric, ensuring it meets the required learning and graduate outcomes. Ensure appropriate APA referencing is used throughout your assessment.

Task 1 – Analysis and problem identification

For the Nourish & Thrive scenario: Identify and describe the key operational challenges that could be solved with technology, such as managing customer relationships, streamlining accounting, or creating effective marketing content.

For the workplace-based application: Identify a specific administrative function, operation or project in your current workplace that could be improved by technology. Describe the current system or process, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.

Task 2 – Research and evaluation

• Research and evaluate at least two potential technologies that can address the challenges you identified. Examples include CRM systems (like Zoho CRM or HubSpot), cloud-based accounting software (like Xero or MYOB), project management tools (like Asana or Trello), or AI chatbots.  Please ensure that appropriate references are applied to your research.
• Conduct a comparative analysis of the technologies based on the following criteria:
  o  Cost: Initial and ongoing costs.
  o Usability: Ease of use and training requirements for staff.
  o Potential risks: Data privacy, security and the accuracy of AI. Identify at least one relevant Aotearoa New Zealand legislation that will need consideration when assessing the potential risks, for example, the Privacy Act 2020.
  o Benefits: Potential gains in efficiency, compliance and user experience.

Task 3 – Demonstration of application

• Produce at least two authentic digital outputs that practically demonstrate how these technologies could be applied. These outputs must be relevant to the business context you’ve chosen and demonstrate your personal production of business information artefacts.

Submission requirements:

• Include screenshots/visuals of the outputs within your ePortfolio document (for context).
• You must submit the original working digital file(s) for these two outputs separately.
• For each output, include a brief statement (approx. 50 words) in your ePortfolio document confirming that you personally created the artefact and how you did it (for example, ‘I created this financial tracker using Microsoft Excel, using formulas to auto-calculate the total’).

Examples of digital outputs:

• A sample dashboard from a CRM system.
• AI-generated marketing content (for example, a sample social media post or product description).
• A spreadsheet-based financial tracker or inventory management system.
• An automated email response using an AI tool.
• A project management tracker in a cloud-based tool like Asana or Trello.

Task 4 – Reflection

• Write a reflective piece on the ethical and professional considerations of implementing new technologies.
• Critically analyse how the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi could be applied in this context. Consider how principles such as partnership and active protection relate to:
  o ensuring data privacy and security for all customers
  o consulting with Māori stakeholders if the technology impacts their interests or taonga (treasures)
  o fairness in service delivery for all customers.
