ESOL554 Assignment Brief

Writing a crafted text, under test conditions, for specific audience using researched materials in English for academic purposes, based on an individual choice of topic related to further postgraduate studies.
A Research Report: a literature review and questionnaire findings. An open book assessment. LO 1, 2, 3
The Research Report will be assessed on content, structure, layout, language, analytical skills and referencing. In addition to writing and research skills, students should demonstrate good information technology skills to manipulate graphical data.
The assessment will be conducted in conjunction with assessment in speaking – NZCEL (Academic) Level 5, Speaking in Academic Contexts ESOL552.2- Oral Presentation.
Graduates are required to have developed fluency and flexibility in academic English language contexts related to their future tertiary studies to align with the graduate outcomes comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) C1, high B2 of a proficient user which represents an advanced level of language competence, benchmarked against IELTS 6.5 and above.
Purpose
The purpose of this assessment is to enable students to demonstrate English fluency and flexibility in writing in academic contexts, related to AIS postgraduate programmes, and their competence in writing well-structured academic texts on complex subjects and by comparing and expressing different viewpoints, outlining problems and demonstrating adequate research skills independently.
Learning Outcomes
LO1. Produce well-structured academic texts on complex subject matters and current issues pertaining to business, information technology, tourism and hospitality management.
LO2. Demonstrate mastery of research skills, critical analysis, problem solving and the ability to integrate and synthesise information and arguments from a number of sources using APA style referencing independently.
LO3. Demonstrate good theoretical and technical knowledge to construct and administer a survey that generates credible data and analysis
