Interpersonal Communication at Work Completion requirements This assignment has three parts.
A2.1. Instructions
A2.2. Debrief
A2.3. Reflection
** All games MUST be playable by week 11 (we will play them in class).
Working in teams you will: A2.1.
Instructions
Design a game with a set of instructions.
The goal of your game must be to improve and/or draw attention to a specific issue/tension of interpersonal communication in the workplace.
The game you design must be fun, interactive and playable by 2+ working professionals in 15-30 minutes.
Notes: Your game should address a known issue or problem. Ideally, the problem or issue will emerge from having observed a group in action. At the very least, your game must address a known issue or problem as expressed in relevant literature(s). Your game cannot be an “ice breaker” or any kind of introduction type activity. Your game must focus on interpersonal issues, not teamwork or leadership or other managerial issues. Your instructions should be simple, logical and between 1–2 pages long.
Your instructions need to cover all the basics:
how many players?
What do they need?
What roles do they need to play?
How does the game start and continue?
How does the game end?
Your instructions must not tell the players what it is that you are hoping to teach or what aspects of interpersonal communication you are seeking to enhance and improve (this comes later).
More marks will be awarded for originality as opposed to the safer option of adapting an existing game. But keep it simple.
A good game is a simple idea that has been executed well. Submit your instructions as a separate file. A2.2.

Debrief
Design a debriefing exercise that can be used to debrief the players of your game (A1.1).
The goal of your debriefing is to enable players of your game to reflect upon and improve their communication practices in the workplace.
Your debrief document must be 1-2 pages long.
Notes: A debrief is a mixture of explanation and questions.
Your explanation must provide an account of what, why and how—what were your intentions?
what was the game was trying to achieve, why were you were trying to do it? and how (exactly) the game was to achieve the goal. You might, for example, note the learning outcomes were you aiming for.
We use the following definition at Massey University:
Learning outcomes specify the knowledge, skills and attitudes that you are expected to demonstrate as a result of successfully completing the course. Learning outcomes are usually stated in terms of observable and/or measurable behaviour: See https://www.massey.ac.nz/massey/learning/programme-course/help/course-terminology.cfm.
Your debriefing notes must also contain a list of <10 questions that you will ask participants.
Your questions must be designed to promote:
(a) players’ reflections on their experiences (and, perhaps, those of other players), and
(b) a conscious decision to change future thoughts and actions. Submit this document as a separate file. A2.3.
Reflection
Write an honest and critical reflection on whether the game and debrief work and/or was a success.
Why and why not? What could you have improved and how?
Your reflection should be between 2-3 pages.
Notes It will be assumed that you have tested your game during the design process, observed your game being played, and conducted a debrief on 1+ players.
The goal of the reflection is not to persuade anyone that your game and/or debrief where a success. Rather, you need to step-back or get some critical distance and self-evaluate. Put bluntly, your game and debrief can be a complete catastrophe and you can do exceptionally well in this section. Additional details for A2.2 and A2.3 You need a strong research base for this assignment. You should cite at least 10 references in support of your arguments made in Parts 2 and 3. Reference lists start on a new page. They are not part of the page count. Use the APA 7th style (see the “APA Interactive” section on the OWLL site). You will be marked down if research is used as padding or improperly used.
