Task Overview: Due Monday June 23rd

The purpose of this assignment is for you to critically analyse an educational leadership issue. This educational leadership issue of your choice and informed by your one-on-one coaching session with the lecturer, sets the bounds for this assignment. The inclusion of the term educational before leadership means the focus is related to improving the conditions (either directly or indirectly as discussed in your ELMA literature) of learning, teaching, and/or research as determined by your context. The assignment is appended with a development plan of 2-3 pages that includes professional development. You are able to build on your final section of assignment one if you wish.

The assignment has three sections as well as an introduction (approximately 150 words) and a conclusion (approximately 150 words). It is appended with a development plan. The three sections are:

• Describe the educational leadership issue your assignment focuses on and justify why it is an issue (approximately 500 words).
• Provide a literature review of research studies of practice and any related critiques of your chosen educational leadership issue. Critically analyse, compare and synthesise related literature. Make sure you include professional development literature related to your educational leadership issue (approximately 3500 words).
• Critique the educational issue in your own organisation and use your critique as a rationale for your development plan. Your critique is expected to be clearly informed by your bounded literature review (approximately 1000 words).

Additionally, the appendix to the essay should be a development plan of 2-3 pages:

• Provide a clear development plan, justified by your final assignment section, that may address some or all of the educational leadership issue related to your organisation or team. The development plan is expected to include plans for related professional development (2-3 pages).

Your assignment will be graded according to how well it displays your ability to:

• Describe and justify an educational leadership issue;
• Synthesise appropriate literature in a bounded literature review;
• Compare and critically analyse literature in a bounded literature review;
• Critique an educational leadership issue in your organisation;
• Provide a justified development plan that may address an educational leadership issue; and,
• Demonstrate a fluency of style, organisation of material and correct referencing (APA 7^th).

Course Learning Outcome Assessed

1. Critically analyse theoretical perspectives on leadership from the literature;
2. Critically analyse personal perspectives and models of practice;
3. Critically review current research on leadership in professional development;
4. Critically evaluate forms of leadership in differing contexts; and
5. Critically demonstrate and argue for an informed approach to promote educational leadership.
