This is your report so your voice is important! There are three parts to the inquiry, Focusing, Teaching and Learning Inquiry. Focusing Inquiry is about identifying the puzzle or problem of practice that you want to find out more about. The first part of focusing inquiry is the Situational Analysis, here you describe the issue/puzzle of practice as it appears in your room/centre. In the Generation of Alternates you ‘brainstorm’ a range of possible approaches that might address the problem, three or four would be sufficient (only one is included in change of teaching practice). In the Topic Review, you review recent research and current literature on the topic and include theoretical perspectives, relate to previous learning and include the perspectives of your Associate Teacher.
The Teaching Inquiry section starts with reporting observations that examine the puzzle of practice more closely (Collecting Evidence). In the section Making a Change you discuss the changes in detail. Lastly in this section you conclude with another series of observations (Evaluating Change) to discuss changes in children’s outcomes as a result of the changes. When reporting the observations, you are providing a summary rather than the actual observations, no images of children are to be used and children’s anonymity is to be protected. Teaching changes suggested in the Teaching Inquiry should be dynamic and have a direct influence on the children.
