Part One: Discussion Forum

Part Two:
Pepeha In honouring you and your cultural identity, outline your pepeha in order to acknowledge the people and places that you are most connected to. Use the pepeha section of Te reo Māori: He taonga mō ā tātou mokopuna (Rokx, 2016) to guide you.
Part Three: Essay
Examine Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi and its importance to Aotearoa New Zealand both historically and in the present day. Then discuss why and how teachers in early childhood education honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi through prioritising Māori culture and language within Aotearoa early childhood settings.

Part Four: Professional Development Plan
Critically reflect on your confidence, use and progression of te reo Māori and consider two specific Māori values, concepts, traditions, or practices that you are wanting to learn more about and implement more confidently and authentically into your teaching practice.

- Importance to early childhood education: Define and discuss your knowledge of each, expanding on its importance to early childhood education and your professional commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership.
- Teaching goal and short-term plan: Outline one specific teaching goal and short-term plan e.g. 2-3 months, that identifies what you intend to learn and progress in, and explains how you will effectively implement your plan and achieve your goal within your ECE setting.
- Evaluation: Consider how you will evaluate the effectiveness and authenticity of your plan in terms of both your teaching and outcomes for tamariki and whānau and what further action you will take to enrich and extend this teaching and learning in the future. LO 1, 2, 3 (1000 words)
