Danny, I can see some good progress here, especially in your gathering of feedback from SIAPO participants and your colleagues. I think your main task from here is to thoroughly analyze key themes that come through from WHAT they said and then consider SO WHAT? does this say about:
- The key features that make for a successful SIAPO class
- What a successful SIAPO class makes possible for these learners and whānau, that wouldn’t happen without it
- Your capabilities and contribution
- What needs to be put in place for 2022 to make sure SIAPO thrives (NOW WHAT)? – your role and others
One way of approaching this would be to start to write a report (that will help with your final project report) outlining
- The purpose of SIAPO class – what it’s aiming to achieve, what success would look like if it was 100% on track
- The key target audience – how do you choose who comes into SIAPO and who can’t – why?
- The key features that need to be in place to support success. Think like you were writing a manual for someone to run this e.g. you have mentioned the physical environment, its location within the school, the training for peer support roles, the activities done during the class time, the relationships with parents, key skills/cultural knowledge that staff involved need, ….e
- How you know these are important features– list your evidence of feedback from learners, colleagues, parents, your own observations/stories of experiences that were significant. If you can find out about what other secondary schools have done, not just Kowhai Intermediate, this would be useful other evidence too. Comparison with the Māori rōpū at your school would be useful too
- What impact does SIAPO have? What does having a “good cultural vibe, being more chilled and relaxed” make possible for these participants in their wider learning, life? Why therefore does SIAPO matter? Conversation with other schools who have done something like this for longer could also help here
- Recommended next steps for your own role and the SIAPO class – what needs to change, stay the same?
I sense that you know heaps more than you have put in writing so far Danny, so just hoping this provides some guidance to structuring your wisdom to communicate and share it with others.
My recommendation is to proceed, AND to actively work on the details of what I have written here and your first report to lay a solid foundation for your final report, portfolio, and assessment which will come around all too quickly!
