Assessment Overview
This is the first of two assessments for this course. It will allow you to evaluate both the HR functions and the people working with them as well as how their approach to management may contribute to different organisational outcomes. It will also give you the ability to focus on one or more HR functions and suggest improvements to them.
Conditions of Assessment
This is an individual assessment that you will complete in your learner-managed time, however, your teacher will provide opportunities during class time for clarification and guidance. All work must be completely your own and all literature used must be referenced appropriately using APA 7th edition. In order to pass this course, you must achieve a cumulative grade of at least 50%, across both assessments.
Learning Outcome(s) Assessed
- Critically assess how Human Resource Management functions contribute to organisational performance and provide resolutions to organisational issues.
Reassessment/Resubmission/Extensions
Please see your course outline for guidelines around reassessment, resubmission, and extensions.
Instructions
To prepare for this assessment you will:
Read the case study (see Moodle) and complete the following tasks:
I. Read through the case study then identify and explain (with 1-2 sentences) THREE HR Management practices (causes) that have contributed to the main HR issue (as stated in the case). Kindly identify causes from different at least two HRM functions. For each cause identified, provide a quotation from the case study demonstrating where the cause was identified.
II. Choosing ONE of the identified causes, use impactful peer-reviewed HRM literature (20 or more citations) and critically analyse and discuss how the chosen HR cause contributes to the current organisational HRM issue (as stated in the case study).
III. Suggest, critically assess, and justify ONE evidence-based HR recommendation that will remedy the organisation’s issue. The recommendation should be realistic (scope, resources, cost and time) and possible to implement straight away. The recommendation should suggest specific practical improvements (not theoretical) to current HRM practices. State and justify the expected outcome of the recommendation. Use impactful peer-reviewed HRM literature and business sources (if possible) to support the justification of the recommendation.
IV. Support the suggestion with one recent relevant example from a real company (from anywhere in the world). Support the example with a reference from relevant business sources.
