You may use a spelling and basic grammar checker (e.g., ‘Grammarly Free’) and referencing software. You must write your dissertation in English – do not write in another language and then use a translator. Do not use ‘Grammarly Pro’ or similar editing software.

Aim of the Assignment

This assignment is an individual assessment and aims to

  • Develop research design capability.
  • Literature review with the aim of identifying a gap in the literature.
  • Scoping and formulating a process of inquiry concluding in an intended outcome
  • Ability to argue and defend a proposed project.
  • Evaluate and apply research methods to carry out a research project.
  • Produce an academic essay or dissertation based on a topic and research question.
  • Critically analyse and compare the study’s findings with existing literature.

Assignment Instructions

Prepare a research project in accordance with the Unitec regulations regarding the presentation of an academic thesis/dissertation on a topic and research question agreed to with your research supervisor.

You will be required to enter into a formal supervision agreement with your supervisor.

You will be required to attend regular (weekly) meetings with your supervisor who will guide you through the research project process. Your attendance at these meetings will be recorded in Seats. You are required to provide your supervisor with regular drafts of your research work-in-progress.

If your research includes surveying or interviewing participants, you will need to outline the ethical considerations you have made and explain how you will manage these. Your project proposal will be reviewed by the school’s ethics committee who will determine whether you have approval to conduct the research in the manner you propose.

Although there will be some variation in relation to topic, content and methodology, the marking rubric that will be used is outlined below.

References 

Use the APA referencing style. You must download and save all research articles used in your research. These may be requested by your supervisor and the examiner.

Please refer to the Grading Rubric on the mark allocation and as a guide to ensure you satisfy the criteria for the Assignment.

  • Please provide a word count on the title page of your report.

Formatting should be Calibri 12 pt. font / 1.5 line spacing, all pages numbered.
